Classical Astronomy and Astrology keeps your data on your device. The birth details and charts you enter are saved locally on your phone. We run no account system, and we don’t use advertising, and we don’t sell or share your data. The one time information leaves your device is if you choose to use the optional AI astrology reader: to answer your question it sends the astrological facts of your chart and your question to our reading service, which relays them to an AI provider. Your name is removed before this is sent, and the rest of the app never transmits your personal information. Purchases are handled by Google Play under Google’s own policies. You can delete your data at any time from within the app, and uninstalling the app removes all of it.
To cast a chart you may enter a name (optional), a date, a time, and a birth or observing location. This information, and the chart profiles you save, are stored only on your device (in the app’s local storage). It is not transmitted to us.
The app stores settings such as your selected theme, language, ephemeris source, and which onboarding screens you’ve seen, locally on your device, so the app remembers your choices.
If you buy a paid feature, the transaction is processed by Google Play Billing. We do not receive or store your payment-card details; Google handles payment under its own terms. We may receive from Google a record of whether a purchase is active so the app can unlock paid features. The price and billing arrangement for any paid feature are shown at the point of purchase before you buy.
For the optional engine-validation panel, the app may contact a NASA-data proxy (NASA JPL Horizons) to compare its own planetary calculations against NASA’s reference ephemeris. These requests contain only astronomical parameters — dates and body names — and no personal information about you. The receiving server may record standard technical information such as an IP address and timestamp, as with any internet request. The app does not transmit your birth or observing coordinates to this proxy or to anyone else.
The app includes an optional AI reader that answers questions about your chart in the classical method. It runs only when you open it and ask a question — nothing is sent while you simply cast or view charts. When you ask a question, the app sends, over an encrypted connection:
What is not sent: your name (and any partner’s name) is stripped and replaced with a neutral placeholder before the request leaves your device, so the AI provider never receives it; your exact birth coordinates are not sent as such; and no account, email, or device contact information is attached. A random per-install identifier is included so the service can meter free and paid readings; it is not linked to your identity.
These requests go to our reading service, hosted on Cloudflare Workers, which relays them to Anthropic (the provider of the Claude AI model) to generate the reading. The reading is generated for your request and returned to your device; we do not use it to build a profile of you or to train models. If a generated answer is automatically flagged for a quality check, a short, name-free excerpt of that answer may be retained so we can improve the reader. You can simply not use the AI reader if you prefer that nothing leaves your device.
If you tap the GPS button or the “Find me” control, the app uses your device’s location, with your permission, to set your observing position so the displayed sky matches where you are. Your location is used on your device only and is not transmitted to us or to any other server. You can decline the permission and enter your observing location manually instead.
The app does not use analytics, advertising, or third-party tracking services. It does report its own faults to us — see the next section, which describes exactly what that means.
When something in the app breaks, the app reports the fault to us so it can be fixed. This is our own reporting, sent to our own server; no third-party analytics or crash-reporting service is involved.
What a fault report contains: what went wrong (the detector or error that fired, and where in our code), the screen you were on and the last few screens before it, your device model and platform, screen size, text-size setting, dark-mode setting, language, time-zone offset, the app version you are running, and a random identifier created on first launch so we can tell how many people a fault affects. If you use the Report a problem button in Settings, whatever you choose to type is included — that box is optional and is the only free text in the system.
What a fault report never contains: your name, your birth date, birth time or birthplace, your coordinates or the name of your location, any chart you have saved, or the text of any reading or answer. No screenshots are ever taken automatically. Our reporting code enforces this with an allowlist — a field we have not explicitly permitted cannot be sent — and our server checks the same rule again independently before storing or emailing anything. The random identifier is not linked to any account and tells us nothing about who you are.
How to turn it off: Settings → Send anonymous diagnostics. When it is off, nothing is collected and anything already queued on your device is discarded.
Your entered data is used on your device to compute and display your charts and the sky simulation, and to save the profiles and preferences you choose. The only time chart information is sent off your device is to answer a question you ask the optional AI reader, as described above — and even then your name is removed first. We do not use your data for any other purpose, and apart from the AI reader it never reaches us.
Locally stored data remains on your device until you delete it or uninstall the app. We do not retain copies.
Your data is stored within the app’s storage on your device and is protected by your device’s own security. Any network requests the app makes (to Google Play Billing or the NASA-data proxy) are sent over encrypted (HTTPS) connections.
Classical Astronomy and Astrology is not directed at children and is intended for adults. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children.
Depending on where you live, you may have rights over your personal data, such as the right to access, correct, or delete it, or to object to or restrict certain processing (for example under the EU/UK GDPR), and the right not to have personal information sold or shared (for example under the CCPA).
Because the personal data you enter is held only on your device and under your control, you can exercise the core of these rights directly — you can view, change, and delete that data in the app at any time. If you have questions or a request, contact us at the email below.
We may update this policy as the app changes — in particular, when features that send data off your device are introduced. We will update the effective date and, where appropriate, notify you in the app.
